Medal Joy for Finchale College
After their inaugural Bronze medal at the Royal Horticultural Show at Tatton Park last year, Finchale Training College has achieved their objective of a Silver medal in the Back-to-Back Garden category, this summer.

As a residential vocational training college for unemployed adults with disabilities this is a massive achievement. Huge praise must go to the students and staff who have put in long hours and enormous effort to create the award winning water garden. The horticultural trainer Gary Hillery said, "I am immensely proud of my students. They have worked extremely hard to achieve this. What’s more because of the complexity of the project other departments within the college, particularly Wood Occupations have helped create this magnificent garden."
The garden is called "The Energy Oasis" (pictured above and below) and represents the way the College recycles and renews students through retraining. By offering new skills, this rebuilds broken dreams and rejuvenates self confidence and self respect resulting in a restored individual.

The garden was moved to Gateshead Summer Flower Show after Tatton for the weekend of 28-30 July 2006 and finally back to Finchale where it will installed in the grounds for the benefit of the students in their leisure time.
