The Garden Handbook A straightforward 'how-to-do-it' book, 'The Garden Handbook' will help you whether you’re tackling a raw new garden or taming an old overgrown one. I think the book also makes an excellent present for someone new to gardening because the advice is easy to follow and Ian’s style is not intimidating. There is advice on soil types and fertilisers as well as weed control and a section on ornamental gardening and landscaping. The kitchen garden section includes top tips and advice on how to turn your garden into a working vegetable patch. There is also a section on aquatics and pond construction. Ian also deals with equipment, pests and diseases, pruning and rejuvenating hedges, plus a section containing a gardening calendar breaking down tasks month by month. It’s a handy size so you could keep it in front of you on the greenhouse bench or out in the garden if you wished. Although a compact size this book covers a lot and in an easy to follow way. So if you are confused by herbs, herbaceous and herbicide, or simply want to know how to plant a tree, ‘The Garden Handbook’ is the perfect companion.
