Alan Titchmarsh – The Gardener’s Year

Alan's latest book "The Gardener's Year" is  a definitive guide to gardening throughout the year and a book which we feel is set to become a firm favourite. Alan reflects on the way we garden today and gives us the low-down on how to keep your garden looking its best.

As he comments in the book's Introduction "It doesn’t matter how long you’ve been gardening, there always comes a time when you need a reminder about this and that. A memory jogger." and this book is that and more.

It aims to take the worry out of gardening giving you the reassurance of knowing when is the best time to do chores, guiding you through the seasons in a practical and informative way and giving you the low-down on ways to keep your garden looking good throughout the year.

The book includes sections on lawns; flowers; vegetables and herbs; greenhouses; shrubs, climbers and water gardens as well as patios and containers and fruit. Features include clear step-by-step artworks to demonstrate techniques, plant directories, hundreds of basic tasks and essential gardening information and creative projects to inspire you to make the most of your garden. Each month follows the same format so it's easy to go right to the place you need.

The Gardener's Year will coincide with the BBC TV series in January 2006. Designed for easy reference, the book will answer all your queries  - from what seeds you can plant out in your vegetable plot in May to how to keep your hanging baskets looking their best until September.

The Gardener's Year is not about quick fixes, it is simply about knowing what you should be doing in your garden, when and why. Alan hopes that The Gardener's Year will become a book which you keep pulling down off the shelf.
