Penella Parr "Standing Room Only"

PreparationWhile Penella is no stranger to Tatton (in 2003 her sculpture of a willow lady supported an RHS Tatton Park entry which won a silver medal), it was the first as a garden designer.

'Standing Room Only' was designed for a public house/restaurant, using limited external space. Penella was influenced by a Shropshire brewery that had combined new technology with more traditional brewing methods.

The garden depicts many of the materials from her local Shropshire area of Much Wenlock. Penella describes herself as an "artist" and one of the most pleasing aspects of her design for Tatton was her combination of a limestone dry stone wall and the contemporary oak archway with a shelf for the glasses. It was a lovely design and was awarded a Bronze (Flora).

The complete gardenIt was during the 2003 show that she first realised that she would like to try and design a garden for herself. "I looked at the gardens that year and said to myself 'I can do that' and so here I am."

Penella prefers to work from an open specification in consultation with her clients and specialises in willow structures. She also likes to combine natural materials with her environmental knowledge to create solutions for landscape projects.

Following her success with her first back-to-back garden project at Tatton we hope to see more of Penella's work in the future.
