Sarah Harrison and Robert Walker "Tropical Interpretation"

The final designWhen a garden designer teams up with a landscape designer the results can be electric. Based on the works of Roberto Burle Marx, Sarah and Robert created a back-to-back garden with a tropical feel.

Roberto is famous for designing the promenade at Copacabana beach in Rio de Janiero, so you can imagine the planting theme for this garden would involve the bold use of form and primary contrasting colours.

Sarah was exhibiting for the first time and like the other new designers was on a sharp learning curve. The final design

Panic over whether tropical plants would arrive in time from somewhere in Europe and when they did that they would be the right colour and in the right condition was just one of the problems she had to face.

Sarah studied garden design at The Welsh College of Horticulture. Robert studied at Reasheath College and has worked in landscaping and interior landscape. By teaming up together they each brought skills to give an overall design concept. They were rewarded with a Bronze (Flora).

Sarah admits that she had been told all week how hard it was, and admits that next year she will do things a lot different but they were both pleased and delighted to win a Bronze as a first-timer. Next year Sarah hopes to design a garden for the Blind.
