Most exciting garden designed? - I like to think that there are many. I allow a project to subsume me, so each garden becomes the most important and most exciting.

What inspires you about each garden that you design? - The property, the surroundings, the enthusiasm of the clients and the thrill of putting my plans into place and enhancing the character of the property and watching the garden develop over the seasons.

Is there a plant that seems to be consistently used in your designs? – This varies from season to season and year to year, currently Nectaroscordum siculum bulgaricum, Betula utilis var jaquemontii, Rosa Glamis Castle (or many David Austin Roses) and Nigella damascena.

How do your clients cope with looking after their garden once you and your team have left? – I will carry out some initial maintenance visits, speak to the in house gardener and explain the philosophy or use some good long standing self employed gardeners.

What is the average time scale for a typical garden? 8 weeks

Advice to would be designers? – Plant Knowledge & appreciation of the ecological conditions and an understanding of scale and proportion.
