Dorset Cereals launches the Edible Playgrounds’ website
Dorset Cereals has launched the Edible Playgrounds website to help schools across the UK build their own veggie garden, www.edibleplaygrounds.co.uk
The Company has teamed up with gardeners, chefs and education experts to create a site that will become an invaluable resource and creative inspiration for children, teachers and parents, helping them create their very own Edible Playground.
Schools can access the site to get advice and inspiration on how to start a school garden, what to plant, how to encourage children to help, when to harvest and what to cook with the fresh produce. There will also be photos, blogs, downloadable lesson plans for teachers and special offers on plants, seeds and gardening equipment to help schools create or develop their Edible Playground.
The Edible Playgrounds project is a Dorset-born initiative that provides schools with gardening equipment, seeds, experience and information to help them establish a food-producing garden in their grounds. The scheme was launched as a community project in May 2007 by Screen Bites: Dorset’s Food Film Festival.
The Dorset Cereals’ team is exhibiting two show gardens based on the Edible Playground' theme at this year’s Chelsea Flower Show (May 19th - 24th) and Hampton Court Flower Show (July 8th - 12th).
Designed by Nick Williams-Ellis, the gardens are intended to be an inspiration for schools, encouraging teachers, pupils and parents to develop small productive gardens where children can learn about and experience the thrill of growing and cooking their own food.
To encourage the rest of the nation to get out in the garden Dorset Cereals is giving away 10,000 beautifully stylish grow-your-own gardening sets via an on-pack promotion plus everyone that enters receives discount vouchers from Crocus, Rocket Gardens and the Royal Horticultural Society.
Complete with beautiful trowel, fork, shears, labels, seeds and garden twine, the kits are set to get the nation gardening. Over four million packs with the promotion on are now available. Each pack is printed with a unique code which can be typed into the Dorset Cereals website to find out if it’s a winning number.
