Herbal Happiness at West Dean

West Dean's 'Wholly Herb Show' on 17th-18th May 2008, is a celebration of those stars of the kitchen and medicine cabinet, the herb family. From the border to the baking tray, the pharmacy to the beauty parlour, herbs are an integral but under sung part of all our lives.

Local celebrity cook Rosemary Moon, author of “Rosemary Moon’s Aga Cookbook”, and numerous other volumes, will be demonstrating how to spice up your kitchen with herbs.

Elsewhere, herb laced, locally produced food will be available to satisfy your titillated taste buds. In addition over 35 stands will be selling everything herbal from health and beauty products to the plants themselves. There will be an extensive range available from the perennially popular parsley to the cosmopolitan curry plant.

In the walled garden there will be a large selection of herbs on display, demonstrations using herbs for dyeing, a Roman apothecary from nearby Fishbourne Roman Palace and our own ‘The good, the bad and the smelly - herbs to cure and kill!’.

To complement these there is also the opportunity to join guided tours with Head Gardener, Sarah Wain and a selection of local herbalists who will unravel the mysteries of the herbal world as they walk you round the garden.

Wholly Herbs is a wonderful opportunity to become more familiar with herbs and everything herbal, in a beautiful setting.
