Book launched in aid of Chelsea Pensioners' Appeal
The UK launch of a new art form coffee table book - Paradise Found: Journeys Through Noble Gardens of Asia’ will take place during the RHS Chelsea Flower Show.
The book, which aims to help raise funds for the £35m Chelsea Pensioners’ Appeal to modernise and improve facilities at the hospital, is a compilation of the most enduring and beautiful gardens in Asia, with all book sales (net of distributor commissions) going towards the appeal.
The Marquess of Salisbury, Chairman of the Chelsea Pensioners' Appeal Executive comments: "The grounds of the Hospital are also the home of the annual Chelsea Flower Show, surely the world's finest horticultural event. The Chelsea Pensioners and horticulture are thus intimately connected in an extraordinary setting. How appropriate, therefore, that this unique book should be about gardens and the money it raises will contribute to the Chelsea Pensioners' Appeal."
The coffee table book showcases 40 Asian gardens with more than 350 stunning photographs that unveil the beauty, splendour and significance of these historical, architectural, and horticultural treasures. It includes essays by more than 40 guest writers including George Alagiah, Jimmy Choo, Elizabeth Hurley and Sir David Tang.
Commenting on the book, Elizabeth Hurley paid tribute to the wonderful gardens of India: “Most of my wedding celebrations in India took place outdoors and I fell in love with the charm of all the gardens in which we were lucky enough to celebrate. Wherever I go in India, I always notice the amazing attention to detail in gardens, regardless of whether they’re of Persian or European influence, or uniquely Indian. I enjoy them all.
“It is a delight to be featured alongside such wonderful photography in this book and I am happy to support such a worthwhile cause.”
