An oasis of calm for QVC Garden at Chelsea

Sponsor: QVC Shopping Channel

Designers: Sarah Price and Patrick Clarke

Talented designers Sarah Price and Patrick Clarke of Wynniatt-Husey Clarke, have drawn inspiration from natural beauty to create an oasis of calm for RHS Chelsea 2008.

Designed exclusively for TV shopping channel QVC, the stunning show garden provides a tranquil space for intimate relaxation, quite enjoyment and rejuvenation. An uplifting space for the senses, the QVC Garden is surrounded by still, reflective water and fresh, naturalistic planting, to create a replenishing space of calm beauty.

Drawing inspiration from the rural landscape to create a sense of connection with nature, cob structure, dry stone walls, expanses of water and soft impressionistic planting, imbue the garden with a sense of atmosphere, evocative of natural springs and scenic countryside.

Inspired by ‘natural’ meadows, a base palette of grasses is blended with umbellifers to simultaneously provide harmony and contrast in form. Rejuvenating colours of lime green, cream, white and yellow create a fresh, natural, meadow-like palette and reinforce the feeling of a beautiful rural landscape.

Accents of dusky pink Astrantia and the aubergine foliage of Anthriscus sylvestris ‘Ravenswing’ and Atriplex hortensis ‘Rubra’ provide tonal counterpoints. Key plants include Angelica archangelica, Deschampsia cespitosa, Myrrhis odorata and Millium effusum ‘Aureum’. The branching ‘Umbrella’ forms of Malus Everest will further frame this abundant composition whilst introducing a sense of height within the garden.

Patrick Clarke began his career as a professional designer in 1994 and formed Wynniatt-Husey Clarke Ltd with Patrick Wynniatt-Husey. He has appeared on television and radio and is guest lecturer at the KLC School of Designed. He has designed two Royal Horticultural Society award winning gardens (Hampton Court 200 and Chelsea 2002) and his work features heavily in major newspapers and gardening magazines.

Sarah Price is considered to be one of the most talented young garden designers of the time. She has already received high acclaim in consecutive years at Hampton Court and Chelsea Flower Shows.

Working alongside the gardening charity, Thrive, the plants and trees exhibited in the garden will be replanted within Battersea Park as part of its ongoing Battersea Project

So be prepared to unwind, relax and chill at the QVC Garden at RHS Chelsea.
